RULES for Facebook Group “Blythe, Dolly’s People and the Universe: The Community Behind The Dolls”

Hello! If you have come here from Facebook then that must mean you are serious about joining the Blythe group! Here are the rules you are looking for:

First off: If you do not answer the Approval Questions you will not get approval to join the group.  Answering should be easy at the questions are super easy!  If you do not answer in English I will not approve you (it is an English speaking group)

Here are the questions, followed by the rules.

  1. What rules should your sales post follow? Please list at least 3 rules.
  2. Who is your favourite Blythe Artist?
  3. What is your favourite Blythe clothing item? Be specific! I love to know!

That’s all!! So here are the rules;

So with our group getting bigger all the time I figured it was time I post the way our group works. Read this if you are new, and it doesn’t hurt to skim it for a refresher if you have been here since the beginning :) as I have added some new things.

WELCOME! Welcome to the OPEN group where all opinions and beliefs are welcome. Post what you want, when you want. Please don’t be mean and no calling out, but be honest. Be you straight, gay, religious or robot you are welcome in a place run by an experienced and mature adult.

First off: I misspelled “Dolly’s” on purpose. It’s supposed to represent them as a people. hehe Plus, it fit better in the title space.

-This group runs on EST (Eastern Standard Time)
-ALL posts must be in ENGLISH.
-ENGLISH MUST BE POSTED FIRST, your own language(s) may follow.
-DO NO use your posts as advertising for your shop, tp post multiple items, to post about your online store stock etc..
-NO MORE THAN ONE POST PER ITEM. Do NOT spam with mulitple posts.
-All information MUST be in your post. No just adding a link, provide ALL info AND include links to where to buy it (for example if you are selling on Etsy)  Posts that do not contain all the information so people do not have to leave the site WILL BE DELETED.
-DO NOT be spammy in general.
-DELETE your posts when they sell. I will delete any member who does not abide by this if I find I have to continuously delete your posts. You get a chance but then you’re gone.
The reason I delete you after a chance: I always contact the offender first in the comment section of the post. The second offence is a polite facebook email and if the problem persists all your posts are deleted and you are removed from the group. You’re all grown-ups. It’s easy to follow the rules like everyone else :)
-I am sorry to do this, but to lessen the odds of having asshole people join our group just to post spam -like sunglasses and cheap ass running shoes- new recruits to our group MUST HAVE one or more of the following in their FB profile: -Dolly pictures and/or Dolly friends
-Swearing is allowed.
-Dolly nudes are allowed.
-NO NEWBORNS (see below)

Please also note that this group is OPEN. It’s not just about dolls either, but the people who love them so feel free to share aspects of your own life. One of the reasons we are an open group is to maintain a public presence that is both acceptable to all and maintainable in that people will think twice about what they post. Hopefully :) If people are more aware that what they say and do is there for all to see, there is less of a chance of inappropriate behaviour and comments.

PLEASE TAKE NOTE. If something IS deleted or if you find you want to delete something and cannot, PLEASE DO NOT PM me with a rash email yelling at me. I would really appreciate that. Because unless you broke a rule, it is almost ALWAYS a Facebook bug. I can’t stress this enough. Facebook is really, really buggy. It always has been and probably always will be, but that is something I could go on about forever another day :) So BREATHE, wait, and check back in a few hours. If there is still a problem I will help you. You are incredibly important to me and I want ALL of you to always be happy and comfortable in this group. IF I DELETED YOUR POST you will have already had notifications and a msg from me, UNLESS you blow in here and immediately just start breaking the rules, which hasn’t happened yet (as of Feb 2018!)

A word about ALL dolls: A LOT of people don’t realize that this site is not just for Blythe. Sure, Blythe is our ‘jumping pad’ but in the end this forum is for people who share a passion. Please know that we would all like to see what you would like to share. Be it your dollies, your doll houses, your doll clothes, your day, your kids, your work, give-aways… This site is about the PEOPLE behind the dolls first and foremost. :) So please note that all dolls are accepted and all pictures of dolls are accepted.
**EXCEPTION!!!!!! No newborns. The reason for this, the newborns are already a whole world on its own and there are PLENTY or resources out there for this type of doll. So NO NEWBORNS.
There are a lot of fun things that happen in this group. To keep in touch with some of the regular things I have created files explaining as much as I can. PLEASE read these. I really don’t want to explain over and over :) It would be really helpful for me and for others to not have to keep explaining things over and over :) To do this, go to the top menu and choose FILES. There you can read all about the QOD, our weekly give-aways, find patterns and PDF’s, funny places to write funny stories, rules and more.
UPDATE: People lost interest in participating but we USED to do a lot of fun stuff. I’m always up for organizing anything if you have an idea so please share!

Now, a word about all the EVIL, GOSSIPY sites out there: I don’t mind you guys talking about them and expressing how you feel (not at all!), but please don’t post links to them in here. I have a dream to keep this site as positive and happy as possible. Adding links to ‘those sites’ keeps them alive and strong, gives them the popularity they are looking for and also adds to their visitors count, which in turn keeps the cycle going. Some people think there is some positivity in those sites but in reality, there is not. It is a sad truth. The negativity just breeds and breeds. I am really against those kinds of sites and I think, as a community, we should all be. The best way to keep those kind of places out of this world is easy: Just IGNORE and AVOID. I hope you understand!!

Please note though, that I know people need to talk about this sort of thing. To vent and cry and get support. PLEASE feel free to do that here. If it starts to get out of hand I will deal with it as it arrives, and explain my actions.

So post what you want, show us your pictures of whatever you want and lastly, please have fun!

PM me or comment below if there is anything you would like to add or question.THANK YOU my lovlies!!

UPDATE!!!I keep getting requests from people who have 0 friends, no pictures, no dollies in their photos and all their likes are for swaps and other weird stuff. If you are NOT into dolls, please just go away and leave this group for us who are. You don’t have to own any, but at least have an interest. THANK YOU!!XOXOX

Pink & Gold Box Room Dollhouse: Available Now!

$250.00 CAD + Shipping, Ships World Wide

Hi all!

My latest box room dollhouse is complete, ready to show off and find an owner!  I will try and keep this as short as possible because there is SO much to tell you about this box.

The box is painted a very pretty pale pink and has a sparkling pearlized finish.  The box ties shut with hot pink satin ribbons attached by two brass holders and has a hinged lid/door.

Inside the box is a wonderful selection of handmade and carefully selected items that are all removable (nothing is glued down except the two framed photos on the wall), The interior also has gorgeous ‘wallpapers’ and cherry wood floors! Yes! Cherry! 17

The wallpapers are: Pure gold, sparkling gold and gold printed creams. They truly are beautiful and I am very happy with them. HOLY WOW do they ever glow and sparkle too!18

Ok. Now to tell you about all the goodies included in this gorgeous room!4

I will start with the items I handmade myself:

-a truly beautiful wreath hangs on the ‘bedroom door’

-a handpainted wooden console and dresser in hot pink and gold, sealed with super gloss!

-two teensy handmade paper boxes

-one teensy handmade paper gingerbread house

-two super soft crocheted area rugs

-two framed photographs (permanently attached to the wall). The frames can be purchased individually in my Etsy shop too! The photos in the frames are miniaturized and printed by me, also the family photograph is one of my miniature reproduction daguerrotypes! You can read about them here: The miniature Mona Lisa is made in a similar manner.

-a stack of miniaturized vintage style postcards

-two handmade miniature REAL books! They have real pages and are super duper cute!

-many wee little balls of yarn (in a carefully chosen basket from an online source)

-a teeny, tiny little dolly. She is made of paper clay and has little wobbly arms and legs, frizzy mohair hair in lavender and a tiny little painted face

The things I did not make but are included in this gorgeous box are;

-a real lamp that lights up with a tiny switch

-a tiny little ceramic wastepaper pot. It’s actually a miniature plant pot but looked so cute in the house as a wastepaper bin.

-an absolutely stunning silver tea set that includes a tray, teapot, creamer and sugar

-a vintage and extremely tiny and delicate glass bird

The box measures 10cm deep, 14 cm wide and 23 cm high.

Now to the pictures!

I have included a picture with one of my Blythe Petites standing inside so that you may visually gauge the size of the box.  She is not included, but she sure is cute!

Some of my favourite CHRISTMAS Ideas from Pinterest

Here are some of my favourite Christmas pins, some I can’t wait to try and some that I just like to look at and thought you might enjoy.

I get most of my supplies from Michaels art stores in Canada. I find that they start coming out with their 50%off, 40% off, buy-one-get-one coupons starting now (Fall) and they usually go until January. So keep an eye out for those coupons and print them out or screenshot those suckers and save them on your phone. It makes shopping for supplies MUCH cheaper. I bought a bunch of glass globe ornaments to fill and paint and I got them for a great price. They were buy one get one 50% off and each pack had 5 glass globes in it. They were on sale to begin with, I think 5.99 a pack!

You can find all of the pins below on my Christmas board here:
Joe Moxie’s Christmas board

I’m going to start with my favourite pin. I planned on making these last year- and even bought all the supplies!- but I just didn’t feel up to actually making them. Maybe this year! If I do, I will post them in a separate post.
Click the links below each photo for the DIY’s or the photo itself for the direct pin!

Another Dorthe Skappel Sweater!

Well, if I am to be really honest, the title should read “Another Dorthe Skappel Sweater And Then Three More”

5.5 hrs of knitting yesterday and I have to start again. 4th times a charm?!

Why 4 you ask? I used the size US 10 knitting needles and found the stitches to be too small. I want a cozy, chunky, bulky sweater so I went up a size. It was still too fine knit, so, I knit it again. That’s the one on the left that you see below. The one on the left is on the 10.5 needles and has a 7.5cm ribbing.

I was curious to see what it would look like even bigger so I used needles sized 13 and skipped the ribbing.

I love it. It’s crazy soft and the perfect thickness! ….except I knit it way to wide!! GAARRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR
I think I need to cast on 60 instead of 80. It’s so wide. I could make a sleeping bag and fit two people in it. So I guess I’m frogging it and starting again!

Here is a photo of how wide this sucker is, before I unravel it.

That’s 80 stitches on size 13 needles with yarn that’s about 4 or 4.5 yarn weight. It’s 74 cms!!! 29 inches. ALMOST 2.5 FEET. That’s just the front!!! So you can see why I’m pulling it all out.

I really hope that this 4th time works out.
Feel free to send me help.

Some info about the yarn: I got this super gorgeous forest green yarn at my nemesis the other day (Michaels. Ugh.). It was called ‘1lb of yarn’ and each bag had two big balls of yarn for $6.49 CAD. I think each ball probably has about 500 yards in it.

UPDATE: Lol. Guys. You guys. Hey. Omg. So I was over halfway finished the front and I found a hole about 5 inches up from THE BOTTOM where I had dropped a stitch and then KNITTED OVER IT so I couldn’t even pick it up. I had to START AGAIN. hahahaha omg it’s just kinda turned into ‘that sweater’ now.

Please note: “The temporary suspension will hold until the SPCA can launch its full legal appeal to have sections of the bylaw retracted.”
I hope people don’t forget about this and the stupid ass government takes advantage and weasles the law through.

I finished the Dorthe Skappel sweater.. sort of..

Ok, so I finished the sweater a little over a week ago.

I decided to forgo the sleeves and just have a super loose tunic tank instead.
It’s actually really, really nice and I love it!

Here’s some crappy photos:

I snapped them really quick for my knitting buddy and I don’t feel like dolling myself up to take nicer ones for you guys. :P
I love it because it’s comfy, super duper super soft -like, really soft. I love this yarn!- and it’s such a pretty colour. I love that it’s sleeveless and I can mix and match it with so many things: T’s, tanks, light long sleeves…

I hate it because : It’s way too wide.
WAYYY too wide.
I thought that it might be because I decided to not double the yarn like the original pattern suggests, but after some pretty extensive googling I can see that it’s still a huge sweater and everyone’s seems to turn out this large. Which I LOVE normally, but because I am not over 6feet tall and supermodel thin (I think Dorthe’s daughters are? Which is why Maria’s looks so crazy stunning on her) the sweater just makes me look a bit chubby. It really looks best on The Skappels.

If it matters, I am 5’7″ and of very average size. No fat, no boobies, scrawny arms, a bit bubble butted..

(I’m stuffing an update in right here: The needle size. It turns out  I used one size 10.5 US. I THOUGHT it said 10 on it because I couldn’t see the .5. I think this makes a massive difference. I am happy I made this mistake because I know that using a bulkier yarn and this needle would make a great sweater!)

The yarn is 100% acrylic, and even though I knew that it wouldn’t shrink I washed it and put it on high heat in the dryer in the hopes that it would.
It didn’t shrink.
It DID tighten up the stitches a bit though! So that was a bit nicer. Not super noticable but enough that -I- noticed.

I am going to make this sweater again and again, with different yarns in different colours. I will post it every time.
BUT: The next time I make it I am going to cast on 60 instead of 80.

Ok, so here are some pictures of the sweater and the reason I did not make the sleeves.

As you can see from the first picture, I decided to try and make the bottom of the sleeve match the bottom of the body. Obviously… this didn’t work. I suspected it but I wanted to see just how bad this sweater could get.
What happened is, because there were less stitches to make the sleeves, the ombre colour change lasted longer.

You can see in the second picture that I turned the sleeve upside down to see what it would have looked like if I had reversed the colour. It would have been much better, but because I was already so done with this yarn I decided that I did not have the patience to redo the sleeve AND try and find the right colours of yarn in the massive mess that the yarn now is.
Check it:

Sorry it’s blurry.

So you can see why I just did not want to touch this yarn anymore or have anything else to do with it.  This pile got bigger after this picture too.
I had to literally dig inside of the rolls to find the right colour matches to make the sweater and there was no way in hell I was going to do that with this pile for two more sleeves with so many colour changes. (read my last two posts on this so I make more sense to you)
Fuck that shit.

LessonS learned. (Yes, I emphasize the S)

Oh- I didn’t take a photo of it but the side seams of this are totally hilarious. I matched up the front and back PERFECTLY on one side and totally missed the mark on the other. So it’s pretty askew on my left side and totally hilarious! I don’t know if people would notice or not because there are so many colours in this. Maybe I will take a pic sometime and add it below.

Also, I could probably crochet a trim around the neck and arms someday to give it more of a finished look but right now the thought of working on it again in any way is painful.

As a side note: The Lion Brand yarn I used for this is so crazy soft I do recommend using it for some sort of knitting project!

Some other notes: The great thing about this sweater is that you can use ANY size needle. All you would have to really do -I think- is alter the stitches up or down depending on the thickness of your yarn! More stitches for smaller needles, less stitches for bigger ones.

I think I spent about about $30 CAD on the yarn. I bought it at Micheals and it was on sale-buy three get a fourth free.

I’m making this again right now! WITH sleeves.
I chose a bag -yes. A BAG- or dark forest green yarn. It was $6.49 CAD and there are two balls in each. Pretty large too. If I had to guess I would say there is about 500 yards in each ball. The bags say ‘1Lb of yarn’ on them. I bought too. So it goes to show you can have this sweater and it will be gorgeous and you don’t have to spend over a hundred bucks on it. Mind you, as you knitters know, yarn has obvious quality differences, but it doesn’t mean that  you can’t look great for cheap :)
